Joseph Parker: record, next fight and profile →
Heavyweight contender Joseph Parker is not paying any attention to the statements from recent rival Deontay Wilder. Back in December, Parker outboxed Wilder over twelve rounds to secure a dominant unanimous decision in a very unexpected outcome.
According to most, Joseph Parker was supposed to be a tenuous stepping stone for Deontay Wilder. We all know what the end goal was, a dinner date with Anthony Joshua. All that Wilder needed to do was knock Parker’s head off his shoulders, something he had done to practically everyone not named Tyson Fury.
Zhilei Zhang’s trainer is certain that his focused heavyweight is taking Joseph Parker much more seriously than Deontay Wilder did December 23. Shaun George got the sense that Wilder overlooked Parker prior to their 12-round fight last month. Wilder paid a steep
By Keith Idec - Zhilei Zhang has an immense amount of respect for Joseph Parker. Most heavyweights wouldn’t have welcomed a dangerous showdown with the powerful fighter who brutally knocked out the only opponent to beat him inside the distance. That’s exactly the scenario Parker embraced after he revitalized his career by upsetting Deontay Wilder on December 23 at Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Turki Alalshikh has brazenly become perhaps the most prominent power broker in boxing over the past few months. As chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, Alalshikh has been afforded the vast financial resources by his polarizing country’s government to fully finance many of the biggest boxing matches that have taken place or been scheduled since late in October. Alalshikh is also very passionate about a now niche sport he hopes regains what he believes is its prestigious, rightful place worldwide.
Eddie Hearn still can’t help but laugh at those that believe Anthony Joshua and his longtime promoter breathed a collective sigh of relief when Joseph Parker upset Deontay Wilder on December 23.
Losing to Joe Joyce seemed detrimental to the career of Joseph Parker. While he wasn’t old, it’s been nearly five years since he held a world title, and considering how shopworn he looked, his championship days were ostensibly behind him.
Two heavyweights with a proven track record to take on all comers turn to each other for their next opportunity. BoxingScene.com has learned that interim WBO heavyweight titlist Zhilei Zhang and Joseph Parker are set to meet March 8 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The bout is expected to be confirmed during a press conference Monday in London to otherwise formally announce the Anthony Joshua-Francis Ngannou main event.
Filip Hrgovic believes he found a willing dance partner for his next targeted ring date. The unbeaten contender replied to the callout by former WBO titlist Joseph Parker, who is also equal to land another high-profile assignment. Both boxers won separate bouts on the December 23 ‘Day of Reckoning’ show in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. They are now on record with interest in a head-on collision on the March 9 Anthony Joshua-Francis Ngannou show in the same city.
Heavyweight great Lennox Lewis was greatly disappointed by Deontay Wilder’s latest effort in the ring. Wilder, the dangerous puncher from Tuscaloosa, Alabama, lost a wide unanimous decision to fellow former titlist Joseph Parker in their heavyweight bout last month in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in what was one of the more surprising upsets of the past year.
