Two-division world champion Jose “Sniper” Pedraza will return to the ring on July 23 to face fellow former champion Richard Commey in a crossroads fight in the state of Minnesota.

Although he was unable to emerge victorious on Friday in his fight against Jose Ramirez, Jose “Sniper” Pedraza understands that he still has a chance to fight for a championship at 140-pounds.

Jose Ramirez returned to the friendly Central Valley confines and got back on track. Ramirez defeated former two-weight world champion Jose Pedraza by unanimous decision (116-112 3x) Friday evening at Save Mart Center in the junior welterweight main event.

Jose Ramirez landed 31% (91/297) of his power punches while Jose Pedraza landed 23% (89/388) of his. Ramirez doubled up Pedraza in jabs landed 42-21. Ramirez also held a 41 to 18 advantage in body punches landed.

By Keith Idec - Jose Ramirez remains one of the top 140-pound boxers in the sport. The former WBC and WBO champion adjusted to Jose Pedraza’s skill and intelligence during the second half of their 12-round fight Friday night and won a unanimous decision in Fresno, California. When the final bell sounded, the 29-year-old Ramirez won by the same score on all three cards, 116-112, in the main event of a nine-bout card at Fresno State University’s Save Mart Center.

Jose Ramirez isn’t the type to seek a soft touch. The former WBC/WBO 140-pound champion has typically taken on the toughest challenges, even near an opponent’s hometown, during his ascent from prospect to one of the top performers in his division. His 12-round fight with Jose Pedraza on Friday night provides more evidence of Ramirez’s willingness to face championship-caliber opposition.

Jose Ramirez realizes why Jose Pedraza presents so many problems for his opponents. The versatile Pedraza has a high boxing IQ, comfortably boxes from southpaw and orthodox stances, usually defends himself well and is deceptively strong. Ramirez (26-1, 17 KOs) clearly could’ve chosen a less problematic opponent for his first fight since Josh Taylor dropped him twice and beat him by majority decision, but the former WBC/WBO 140-pound champion is confident that he’ll overpower Pedraza (29-3, 14 KOs) in their 12-round fight Friday night at Save Mart Center in Fresno, California.
