Jose Pedraza: record, next fight and profile →
In front of 10,128 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, undefeated 130-pound Floyd Mayweather protégé Gervonta Davis (17-0, 16 KOs) dethroned defending IBF Junior Lightweight World Champion Jose Pedraza (22-1, 12 KOs) with an impressive seventh round TKO (2:36) in the opening bout of SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING.
Barclays Center, Brooklyn, New York - 22-year-old Gervonta Davis (17-0, 16 KOs), in a star making performance, stopped previously undefeated Jose Pedraza (22-1, 12 KOs) in the seventh round to capture the IBF super featherweight title.
Pedraza vs. Davis LIVE Scorecard - New York - Late tonight, fans will be treated to a unification battle, as super-middleweight supremacy will be on the line when World Boxing Council champion Badou Jack and International Boxing Federation title-holder James DeGale clash in New York.
George Groves is the only fighter to defeat James DeGale since DeGale won a gold medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. Badou Jack is one of only two opponents to beat Groves during Groves’ professional career. Neither DeGale nor Jack appears to have placed too much emphasis on those opposite results in closely contested meetings as they head toward their 12-round super middleweight championship unification fight Saturday night at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Jose Pedraza patiently has been waiting for an opportunity to make Gervonta Davis eat his words. The brash Baltimore boxer clearly has rubbed Pedraza the wrong way during the buildup toward their 12-round fight Saturday night for Pedraza’s IBF world featherweight title in Brooklyn. Puerto Rico’s Pedraza (22-0, 12 KOs) is a slight favorite over Davis (16-0, 15 KOs), who has built his impressive record against a low level of opposition since he turned pro nearly four years ago.
NEW YORK – Lou DiBella knows better than to think Jose Pedraza will handle Gervonta Davis with ease. Pedraza’s promoter does believe that his fighter has numerous advantages over Davis as their 12-round fight for Pedraza’s IBF world super featherweight title approaches. DiBella is thankful, too, because Davis’ brashness has motivated Pedraza to prove the 22-year-old prospect is in over his head when they meet Saturday night at Barclays Center in Brooklyn (Showtime).
