The new Latin champion of the World Boxing Organization (WBO) at 135 pounds, Jose "Sniper" Pedraza, will take two weeks off before returning to the gym in Cidra with a view to a looming showdown with WBO world champion Ray Beltran of Mexico.
LAS VEGAS – Antonio Moran made Jose Pedraza work extremely hard Saturday night to beat him. Pedraza withstood the bigger, aggressive Moran’s best shots, landed plenty of power punches of his own and won a unanimous decision in their 10-round lightweight bout. Puerto Rico’s Pedraza (24-1, 12 KOs) won by the same score, 96-94, on all three scorecards in a bloody, brutal battle on the Terence Crawford-Jeff Horn undercard at MGM Grand Garden Arena.

GUAYNABO, P.R. - The "Sniper" has its sights set on another world title. Former world champion Jose "Sniper" Pedraza longs for the opportunity to be crowned as champion in a new weight category, but before that, on June 9 he will have to pass a tough test.
Jose “Sniper” Pedraza is nearing a title shot while Shakur Stevenson is well on his way. Pedraza and Stevenson will see action June 9 on the Terence Crawford vs. Jeff Horn world championship event at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Pedraza (23-1, 12 KOs), from Cidra, Puerto Rico, will challenge Antonio Moran (22-2, 15 KOs) in a 10-rounder for the WBO Latino lightweight belt, while Stevenson (6-0, 3 KOs), the 2016 U.S. Olympic silver medalist, will step up in class against Aelio Mesquita (16-1, 14 KOs) in an eight-round featherweight contest.
Former world champion Jose "Sniper" Pedraza will not have to wait long to return to the ring. The Puerto Rican boxer is on schedule to challenge Mexican fighter Antonio "Tono" Moran for the Latin belt of the World Boxing Organization (WBO) at the lightweight limit of 135 pounds.
The challenge sent by former world champion Jose "Sniper" Pedraza, to dangerous Mexican contender Antonio Lozada Jr., was well received by promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank. Arum believes the lightweight contest has legs, but he's unsure if a bout between Pedraza and Lozada Jr. could end up on the undercard of the scheduled card on May 12 at Madison Square Garden in New York City, which is going to be headlined by a lightweight bout between Vasyl Lomachenko and Jorge Linares.

NEW YORK – Jose Pedraza showed some rust Saturday, particularly defensively. The former 130-pound champion still performed well enough to overcome Mexico’s Jose Luis Rodriguez in The Theater at Madison Square Garden. Puerto Rico’s Pedraza, now campaigning as a lightweight, defeated Mexico’s Rodriguez by unanimous decision in his first fight in 14 months, an eight-rounder on the Amir Imam-Jose Ramirez undercard.
