According to WBC president Jose Sulaiman, undefeated Jorge Linares (25-0, 16KOs) has vacated the WBC featherweight title, citing problems with the weight and the need for additional time to recover from an injury.
The man Linares battered last July to capture the title, Oscar Larios, has been elevated to full champion status. Larios won the interim-title in May and his camp has been pushing for a fight with Linares. The fight didn't make much sense to Linares when taking into account how he punished Larios in their first meeting. Larios announced his retirement after the loss, but came back in February.
Larios will make the first defense of his title on October 16 against unbeaten Takahiro Aoh (16-0, 8KOs) at the Yoyogi First Gym in Tokyo, Japan.
