Jorge Linares Likely To Return on Canelo-Fielding Undercard

By Ryan Burton

LAS VEGAS - caught up with former multi-division champion Jorge Linares yesterday at the Ryota Murata-Rob Brant weigh in.

Linares, who is co-promoted by Golden Boy and Teiken, was there to support his promotional stablemateMurata who is co-promoted by Teiken and Top Rank.

Unfortunately for Linares, his stablemate was thoroughly defeated by big underdog Rob Brant in a shocking upset.

After getting stopped by Vasiliy Lomachenko in 10 rounds in May in a high profile fight, Linares returned to the ring last month and blasted out an over matched Abner Cotto in three rounds in his super lightweight debut.

The 33-year-old Venezuelan revealed that he will likely make a quick return to the ring.

"The plan is for me to come back in December.  Hopefully I will be on the Canelo undercard in New York," Linares told

Linares doesn't know his opponent will be yet but confirmed that he will stay at 140 pounds.

Linares is willing to come back down to lightweight for the right fight - like a rematch with Lomachenko, but he also wants to secure another world title in a new weight division.

"I feel very strong at this weight.  Mikey Garcia (moved up to this weight) so why not me? This is a good weight for me," said Linares.

Canelo Alvarez recently signed a massive 5-year, 11 fight deal for $365,000,000 with upstart streaming company DAZN.  His first fight under the agreement will take place on December 15th when the Mexican superstar moves up to 168 pounds to challenger WBA super middleweight champion Rocky Fielding for his title. As part that deal, Golden Boy receives 10 dates on DAZN per year - starting in 2019.
