Jordan Gill: record, next fight and profile →
Boxing always needs stars. It might need stars more than it needs great fighters. Stars put butts in the seats, generate press, and drive the most important question in boxing: what’s next? When fans are asking that question, when they care, especially the kind of fans who can only name a handful of boxers at any given time, boxing has someone to build on.
Jordan Gill can look ahead to a bright future after stopping Michael Conlan in Belfast on Saturday night. The fight was set up to provide proof that after two unsuccessful challenges for featherweight world titles, Conlan - armed with a new trainer in Pedro Diaz - was recharged and ready for a third assault on the world scene at super featherweight. Instead, it was the underdog from Peterborough who breathed new life into his career.

Promoter Eddie Hearn believes Irish Olympian Michael Conlan will have a very difficult time in bouncing back from Saturday's stoppage loss at the hands of Jordan Gill.
SSE Arena, Belfast - In a crossroads fight at super featherweight, Jordan Gill (28-2-1, 9 KOs) may have ended the career of Olympian Micheal Conlan (18-3, 9 KOs) with a seventh round stoppage.
Michael Conlan considers Jordan Gill a “live” opponent who will give him a difficult fight because Gill’s career is on the line. The favored Conlan’s career is also on the line in their 12-round, 130-pound fight Saturday night at The SSE Arena in Conlan’s hometown of Belfast, Northern Ireland. The 2016 Olympian will make his debut as a full-fledged junior

Michael Conlan has the benefit of a familiar backdrop for his first fight at a higher weight. The former two-time challenger appeared fighting fit at a career heaviest 129 ½ pounds for his junior lightweight debut. He will face England’s Jordan Gill, who followed Conlan up the scale from featherweight and was also 129 ½ pounds. The two will meet in a scheduled twelve-round contest Saturday evening on DAZN from The SSE Arena in Conlan’s hometown of Belfast, Northern Ireland. Matchroom Boxing will present the eight-fight card in association with Conlan Boxing.
Michael Conlan insists that working with Pedro Diaz has helped him to rediscover some old skills and his love of boxing. In May, the Irishman was knocked out by WBO featherweight champion Luis Alberto Lopez. The defeat was Conlan’s second unsuccessful attempt at a featherweight world title (Leigh Wood stopped Conlan in the final round of a thriller in March 2022) and forced him to consider his future in the sport.
