Richards - nicknamed ‘Spider’ - began brightly using his rangy jab to keep Gray at bay but was unable to land any telling shots with his Telford based opponent showing glimpses of ambition.

Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Sport’s first show of the new year will take place at a rather unfamiliar venue. The Brentwood-based promotional company, who staged ‘Who’s Fooling Who’ –– Callum Smith’s one-round demolition of Rocky Fielding –– at the Echo Arena on Saturday, has already confirmed that it is starting 2016 in London. The O2 Arena in the Docklands would be the most likely venue, you’d have thought, given that Hearn’s past five ‘big’ shows in the city have been at that setting.
John Wayne Hibbert has his next fight pencilled in –– with an opponent to boot. The WBC International super lightweight champion, 16-3 (10), will return to the ring in the new year, facing Tommy Martin live on Sky Sports.
Dillian Whyte 16-0 (12 KOs) took care of his side of business before his proposed Dec 12 heavyweight grudge match with Anthony Joshua after taking care of 40-year-old American veteran Brian Minto 41-10 (26 KOs) inside three rounds Saturday evening at O2 Arena in London, England. Unlike Whyte’s last opponent, Irineu Beato Costa Junior, Minto came for a fight and proved this by catching Whyte occasionally with shots that looked camera worthy but barely put a dent in the Brit.
John "Wayne" Hibbert (9st 13lbs) and Dave "Rocky" Ryan (9st 13lbs 3oz) kicked off Eddie Hearn's O2 bill with a hard-fought Commonwealth light-welterweight title fight that saw Ryan decked twice—in the third and fifth rounds respectively—and with it all to fight for going by the midway point.
There was a bit of late drama at today’s weigh-in for Eddie Hearn’s O2 Arena show. Defending WBC lightweight champion Jorge Linares missed the division limit by 4ozs and was given just one an hour to get down to 135lbs or forfeit his WBC title. Kevin Mitchell, the challenger, hit the scales at 9st 8lbs 4ozs. Linares came back just over 10-minutes later and weighed in at 134.1lbs.
