Jacobs, Ryder Scorecard BoxingScene Live - Former two-time middleweight world champion DANIEL JACOBS enters the ring for the first time in nearly two years this weekend, stepping up to face JOHN RYDER live on DAZN from the iconic Alexandra Palace.
This weekend is a big one for trainer Tony Sims. He has two mainstays of his Essex stable in competition and while both are on the brink of hugely-significant fights, John Ryder and Felix Cash have plenty of work ahead of them at the Alexandra Palace if they are to move forwards.
It was a feeling Daniel Jacobs had never experienced inside a boxing ring prior to the night of his fight with Gabe Rosado two years ago. For the first time, Jacobs didn’t have that same fire burning within him that enabled the former IBF middleweight champion to fight his way out of poverty and later through cancer, or to withstand the power of Gennadiy Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez. He was just kind of there that fateful night in November 2020 at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida.
It has been a long time since Daniel Jacobs boxed in the UK, but an ambition that was formed as a 17-year-old is being fulfilled on Saturday night when he boxes John Ryder at Alexandra Palace in London.
John Ryder hopes to put a frustrating two years behind him when he faces Daniel Jacobs at Alexandra Palace in North London on Saturday night as he aims to keep his dream of becoming a world champion alive.
Daniel Jacobs’ apathetic performance against Gabe Rosado late in 2020 drew intense criticism from fans and media. They didn’t just question whether Jacobs deserved the split-decision win over Rosado that’ll forever remain on their records. They doubted Jacobs’ desire to remain a professional prizefighter because the former 160-pound champion has made so much money in recent years, particularly for his most noteworthy bouts – 12-round, unanimous-decision defeats to Gennadiy Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez.

Fourteen months after his subpar performance against Gabe Rosado, Daniel Jacobs intends to show there is much more that separates him from John Ryder than we saw at the scale Friday afternoon in London.
