Joe Joyce vs. Marco Huck To Be Announced Next Week

The vacant European heavyweight title fight between Marco Huck (41-5-1, 28 KOs) and the unbeaten Joe Joyce (10-0, 9 KOs) looks set to be announced next week.

Huck Service GmBH won October’s purse bids with a sum of 480,000 Euros opposed to Queensbury Promotions bid of 350,000 Euros.

Manager to Joyce, Sam Jones of S-Jam Boxing who also represent the likes of heavyweight prospect Guidi Vianello, said today (November 5th) on Twitter, “Just a quick update. As you know Marco Huck’s team won the purse bid to stage the fight for the European title. The date for the bout has to be before Christmas and we will have a concrete date next week.”

Huck, who won the European cruiserweight title back in 2006, has only had one outing in 2019 which was a first round no-contest verdict against Nick Guivas at the Foxwood Resorts in Connecticut back in May.

Joyce, nicknamed “The Juggernaut” has been pushed at a rapid rate in a bid to mix among the division’s best sooner rather than later, thanks largely in part due to his 34-years of age (the same as Huck) and his all-out aggressive style which revolves around a high work-rate.

The experienced amateur, co-promoted by Frank Warren, fought the likes of current rivals Oleksandr Usyk and Filip Hrgovic in the World Series of Boxing six years ago and is now ranked at number ten with the WBC and has already beaten three experienced opponents this year in the shape of Bermane Stiverne (TKO 6), Alexander Ustinov (TKO 3) and Bryant Jennings (UD 12).

Over the years, Huck's opposite corner has featured the likes of Steve Cunningham, Denis Lebedev, Firat Arslan, Mairis Briedis and Usyk all at cruiserweight while his first stint at heavyweight was ended by Alexander Povetkin when the Russian successfully defended his WBO Heavyweight title via majority decision in 2012.

“Kapt’n” Huck has enthralled fans across the years with his come forward, wildman style which has seen him involved in some thrilling cruiserweight bouts and fight of the year contenders. The bout against Joyce will be his 47th and the Brit will be fighting abroad for the first time in his professional career.
