According to British star Amir Khan, his upcoming fight with Samuel Vargas could become a final eliminator for the WBA "regular" world title. If that happens, and should Khan win, he would be in line for a showdown with the winner of the upcoming bout between WBA "regular" welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse and challenger Manny Pacquiao.

On May 25, the purse bid for the welterweight fight between Shawn Porter and Danny García, for the vacant title of the World Boxing Council, is scheduled to take place. According to the president of the WBC, Mauricio Sulaiman, the fighters are close to an agreement.
Former champions Amir Khan and Jessie Vargas were both in action on April 21st. Khan, in the first of a three fight deal with Eddie Hearn of Matchroom, destroyed the badly overmatched Phil Lo Greco in 39 seconds at the Echo Arena in Liverpool. The fight was Khan's first since his wicked knockout loss to Canelo Alvarez in May, 2016 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. It also was his first fight in the UK since his unanimous decision victory over Julio Diaz in 2013.
