Former super lightweight champion Jessie Vargas (26-1) is counting down the days to his March 5th fight against Sadam Ali (22-0). The fight will be for the vacant WBO welterweight title and will open up the HBO broadcast with Luis Ortiz-Tony Thompson serving as the main event.

Vargas has been inactive since his June loss to Tim Bradley and is very anxious to get back in the ring.  Vargas has changed trainers several times in the past few years and feels that he finally has a fit that will last.

"We are finalizing training camp.  Everything has been great. I am very happy with the results," Vargas explained.

His new trainer is former kickboxing champion Dewey Cooper, who also boxed professionally.  Cooper is very pleased with the progress Vargas has made.

"He has been sharp this entire time. He has been evolving, doing the things he does well even better and improving the things that he doesn't do as well. He is looking good, man. We are all satisfied with the way things have been going," said Cooper.

The Las Vegas based fighter said that Cooper has taken him out of his comfort zone and has helped him really improve in aspects of his game that he hasn't emphasized in the past.  He said that it will be on display when he steps in the ring next week.

"A lot of people don't know that I have been knowing Dewey since I was eight years old so he knows a lot about me. He knows what styles I am capable of coming out with in the ring and with that being said, he has been able to focus on what I haven't been doing lately and what I could be doing and helped me fix the areas that I need to help. I am better and stronger than ever and soon we will all see what we are capable of doing. If they were to ask me who I want to go to war with I would say with the people I have around me and it will show when I become the WBO champion on March 5th," Vargas told BoxingScene.com.
