Earlier this month, BoxingScene.com reported that Jessie Vargas (28-2-2) was considering a move to 154-pounds for his next fight.  His ring return, at junior middleweight, will take place on April 26th in Los Angeles on the Srisaket Sor Rungvisai-Juan Francisco Estrada undercard.  The entire card will be streamed on DAZN.

The former two-division champion has held titles at both super lightweight and welterweight and is looking forward to working towards becoming a three-division champion. His opponent is expected to be announced in the very near future.

As previously reported by BoxingScene.com, Vargas is now training at the Wild Card Gym under the guidance of Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach.

Vargas fought twice in 2018 with both bouts ending in draws.  He faced Adrien Broner in April and Thomas Dulorme in October.

Part of the reason for the move up in weight is that it was becoming difficult for the Las Vegas native to get down to the welterweight weight limit.

"I’m looking forward to the move up in weight," Vargas told BoxingScene.com. "I was struggling to make 147 but the urge of wanting to regain my title at welterweight kept me there. Moving up to 154 is the best decision I could have made. "

A lot of the talent at 154 is fighting on Al Haymon's Premier Boxing Champion events on FOX and Showtime.  Vargas team of advisers also includes Haymon but he is also promoted by Eddie Hearn's Matchroom Boxing who's stable of fighters fight on DAZN.

WBO super welterweight champion Jaime Munguia also fights on DAZN and Vargas said that is the fight that he is targeting.

"That’s the fight that Eddie, my advisers, and I are pursuing," said Vargas.
