Former welterweight champion Jeff Horn, six years to the day of his shocking win over Manny Pacquiao to capture the WBO world title, held a press conference to officially announce his retirement from the sport.

The press conference took place at Suncorp Stadium, where Horn won a twelve round decision over Pacquiao in July 2017.

Horn told local reporters that he was officially retiring from boxing to teach anti-bullying tactics in Queensland schools.

"I've enjoyed my time, that's for sure as a boxer, but now I've got more important work to do," said Horn. "My next flight is definitely my biggest, and it's personal, and it's to try and protect every kid.

He was joined by his long-time coach Glenn Rushton, co-founder of anti-bullying charity Bullyproof Australia.

Horn revealed that he turned down offers of $1 million to return to the ring.

"When I said no to over a million dollar fight. I'm like, now I know, I'm doing what I need to do," Horn said.

In the last couple of years, Horn has been speaking to students.

"I can just see it in the eyes of the kids, and that they believe in what I'm saying and it's changing their lives. So, it's a very important message that I'm sharing with them," Horn said.

"A lot of kids just don't know what to do. Or they've got a parent that says, 'Just punch him in the nose, and they'll be right'. I know, that's what my dad told me back in the day, but it doesn't always work. I didn't win fights that I got into at high school. So, it's going to train them how to manage that situation properly."

Horn (20-3-1, 13 KOs) had his last fight back in August of 2020, when he was battered and stopped by Australian superstar Tim Tszyu.

After beating Pacquiao, he would lose the title two fights later - when Terence Crawford stopped him in nine rounds at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
