At the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, heavy underdog WBC light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal (26-1, 16KOs) won an upset eleven round technical decision over previously undefeated and pound for pound ranked Chad Dawson (29-1, 17KOs). Pascal added Dawson's IBO title to his waist. The scores were 108-101, 106-103 and 106-103, all for Pascal.

Pascal used movement and quick flurries to take several of the early rounds. Dawson got rocked and his knees shook when Pascal caught him with a hard right in the seventh. In the eight, Pascal's right hand rocked Dawson again and shook his knees. Dawson was forced to hold on to get out of trouble. Pascal badly hurt Dawson in the ninth, shaking him up against the ropes. Dawson fought his way out of trouble.

In the eleventh, Dawson came out strong and started beating up Pascal against the ropes. Pascal was badly hurt and looked like he was going to take a knee. During the action, there was a very bad clash of heads that opened up a deep gash above Dawson's right eye. The doctor took one look and quickly stopped the fight.

On the undercard, undefeated lightweight prospect Arash Usmanee (6-0, 3KOs) stopped journeyman Hugo Pacheco (11-16) in the second round of a scheduled four rounder. Usmanee, 28-years-old, will not have to wait long to get back in the ring. He returns to action on September 18 at the Claude-Robillard Center in Montreal.

Prospect Kevin Lavallee (2-0, 2KOs) stopped Genaro Garcia (9-9, 6KOs) in the second round of super featherweight.

In the first upset of the night, fringe heavyweight Rubin Rivera (3-4, 1KOs) dropped and took away the unbeaten streak of prospect Wayne John (4-1, 2KOs) with a six round split decision. One judge had a ridiculous score of 59-55 for the hometown fighter John, and the others sided with Rivera handing down scores of 57-56.

Junior welterweight Dierry Jean (18-0, 12KOs) continued his unbeaten run by battering Antonio Soriano (15-12-2) for six rounds before the journeyman decided to call it a day.
