The Japanese Boxing Commission has reportedly overturned Luis Nery’s lifetime ban from boxing in Japan ahead of a potential fight with the undisputed super bantamweight champion Naoya Inoue

Inoue, 30, is on course to make the first defence of his undisputed title – having most recently won the IBF and WBA titles from Marlon Tapales in December – at the Tokyo Dome in Japan on May 6.

Nery first damaged his reputation in Japan when he tested positive for the substance zilpateral prior to his fight in 2017 against Shinsuke Yamanaka, in Kyoto.

He escaped punishment from the WBC but was ordered to give Yamanaka a rematch, which took place in March 2018, when he was stripped by the WBC for failing to make the bantamweight limit by more than five pounds.

When Yamanaka was defeated inside two rounds Nery was given a lifetime ban by the JBC.

The commission has since reportedly chosen to again give the 29-year-old Nery permission to fight in their territories against perhaps their highest-profile fighter of all time.
