Jayson Velez Would Like To Face Mares or Gonzalez

After his spectacular TKO victory over Miguel " Mikito " Soto, undefeated Jayson " La Maravilla" Vélez (22-0, 16KOs) wants to face the biggest names in the featherweight division where he is ranked at number 2 by the WBC . "We will talk to my manager and the company (Miguel Cotto Promotions / Golden Boy Promotions). but we are ready for May or June and it does not matter. We are at another level , we want big fights, and when they are ready to [fight] I will be ready," stated Vélez after his victory over Soto.

Ruben Rodriguez Coliseum, Bayamon, Puerto Rico - Michael Perez scored a well-deserved unanimous decison over Jorge Romero in their 10-round super lightweight bout Monday evening in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. Scores were 98-92 on all three scorecards in favor of Perez, who returned to Puerto Rico for the first time in nearly two years. The win advances Perez' record to 20-1-2 (10KO), coming two days after his lone conqueror Figueroa struggled in a split decision win over Jerry Belmontes. Romero has now dropped four straight, falling to 24-8 (21KO).

Lightweight prospect Michael Angelo 'The Artist' Perez looks to extend his unbeaten streak to six straight as he faces Mexico's Jorge Romero in a scheduled 10-round main event Monday evening in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. Perez (19-1-2, 10KO) was a highly touted rising lightweight in the Golden Boy stable until running into the lethal fists of then-unknown Omar Figueroa in Jan. '12. The New Jersey-based Boricua hasn't quite yet returned to past form, though is coming off of a wide points win in his most recent ring appearance last September. Their bout airs later this evening on Fox Sports 1.

Velez was last seen in action last October, winning a ten round unanimous decision over Dat Nguyen. Featherweight contender Jayson Velez is seeking an opponent for a planned appearance on the undercard of Miguel Cotto’s return to the ring, which takes place October 5 in Orlando, Florida. Boxingscene’s Miguel Rivera reported earlier Tuesday afternoon that Fernando Montiel was sought as an opponent, but that the former three-division champ was disinterested in the fight. “[M]y promoter is working on the opponent and I hope to have something official in the coming days,” Velez said, referencing Cotto as the featherweight fights for Miguel Cotto Promotions. “They were working on Fernando Montiel, but now we are looking for another opponent. It seems he did not want to fight.”
