Less than a week ago, BoxingScene.com's Jake Donovan reported that the World Boxing Association approved a request for WBA super featherweight world champion Jason Sosa to make a voluntary defense against unbeaten Gervonta 'Tank' Davis.

Efforts by the World Boxing Association to consolidate its number of titlists have been temporarily placed on hold in the super featherweight division. The sanctioning body confirmed that recently crowned titlist Jason Sosa has been granted a voluntary defense, which will come versus unbeaten Gervonta 'Tank' Davis. The bout is tentatively slated to take place on October 22 at a location to be announced in the coming days. Free-to-air American television network NBC has that date set aside for a Premier Boxing Champions telecast, although this bout has yet to be confirmed to appear (main event or otherwise) on the show.

The World Championships Committee of the World Boxing Association (WBA) have ordered the start of negotiations between the Panamanian Jezreel Corrales (20-1, 8KO) - who is the WBA's super champion at super featherweight - to take on Jason Sosa (19-1 -4, 15KO) of the United States, who holds the WBA's "regular" championship at the weight.

With his upset knockout victory over previously undefeated Javier Fortuna this past Friday in China, Jason Sosa (19-1-4, 15KOs) now holds a version of the WBA 130-pound title (Jezreel Corrales is the other belt-holder for the organization). His promoter, Russell Peltz, would like to see his man face the marquee names in the division.

Both boxers made weight for their scheduled 12-round main event, which will air live on China's CCTV5. As has now been the case for all three of his title fights at the weight, Fortuna came in right at the 130-pound divisional limit. Sosa tipped the scales at 129.25-pounds for his first career title shot.
