Jaron Ennis: record, next fight and profile →
Trainer Brian “Bomac” McIntyre doesn’t feel that his ace client, Terence Crawford, is under any obligation to fight Jaron “Boots” Ennis. Omaha, Nebraska’s Crawford was recently stripped of his IBF title, which he won in his high-profile undisputed welterweight title match against Errol Spence Jr. in July at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Terence Crawford smiled Wednesday when he expressed how he feels about the IBF stripping him of its welterweight title last week. The undefeated, undisputed 147-pound champion couldn’t believe that the New Jersey-based sanctioning organization
There were a ton of different ways Jaron Ennis envisioned his championship aspirations playing out. On one end, the 26-year-old saw the corner of Errol Spence Jr. rushing to the ring apron with a white towel in their hands waving things off. In another scenario, Ennis could vividly imagine the lifeless body of Terence Crawford lying on the
Terence Crawford apparently still has a significant chip on his shoulder. The now former undisputed welterweight champion from Omaha, Nebraska, couldn’t help but notice the attitude of some fans (or critics) toward him after the International Boxing Federation stripped him of his 147-pound title last week for his inability to comply with a mandatory defense against top-rated contender Jaron “Boots” Ennis.
Jaron Ennis isn’t the type of fighter that will turn down a fight. If a name is presented to him, he’ll simply ask for a fight date, then proceed to sign his name on the dotted line. The same, however, can’t be said for his peers.
The life of Jaron “Boots” Ennis was difficult. Well of course, it’s hard to complain when you’re pocketing large wads of cash for beating people up for a living, but deep down inside, he was frustrated with his lack of opportunities.
Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford is no longer boxing’s undisputed welterweight champion. BoxingScene.com has confirmed the IBF has ceased recognition of Crawford’s reign due to his inability to satisfy a mandatory title defense obligation. The unbeaten three-division champ inherited interim IBF titlist Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis as an overdue title defense, but cannot comply with the sanctioning body’s rules on negotiations due to his contractually
Mario Barrios isn’t cut from the same cloth as some of his boxing contemporaries. The 28-year-old, ever since he was introduced to the violent sport, was never interested in eschewing the best fighters around. Instead, he believed that the only way he could improve was by challenging and pushing himself to the limit.
Jaron Ennis and his critics can agree on one thing. He needs an elite-level opponent. So far, Ennis (31-0, 28 KOs) has been settling for whoever is willing to step in the ring with him. Karen Chukhadzhian and Roiman Villa were passable but Ennis wanted someone bigger and better. Of course, his preferred choice is Terence Crawford, the welterweight division’s undisputed champion.
Mario Barrios might be a lot of things but one thing that he’s not, is afraid to get into a fistfight. He wasn’t scared to lose his undefeated record to Gervonta Davis. He didn't show any trepidation when he was asked to move up to a weight class he never competed in to take on Keith Thurman. He also wasn't unnerved when the name Yordenis Ugas slid across his desk.
