For years, Floyd Mayweather, Sr. has told the boxing world that he invented the defensive techniques being used by his son, Floyd Jr.

In an interview with the Mercury News, James "Lights Out" Toney, one of the best defensive fighters to ever step foot in a ring, disputed Mayweather's claim. Toney says that he invented the defensive moves being used by Floyd Jr.

"Everything Floyd does, he got from me," Toney said. "I've been doing this for years. I watched films and was trying these moves and I'm like, `Damn, this hurts. I'd go home and punch in the mirror every day. I'd go back in the gym the next day, try the same thing again and, bam, get hit in the body. One day, everything started coming."

Toney said he created his defensive techniques by watching tapes of legendary fighters such as Ray Robinson, Hogan "Kid" Bassey, Charlie Burley and Battling Siki.
