The WBC gave middleweight champion Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez until December 15th to give a status update about his improving health situation, plus when he will be ready to return to fight, and things are looking up. Martinez suffered several injuries after winning a close twelve round decision over undefeated Martin Murray this past April in Argentina. The mandatory challenger to Martinez's title is Marco Antonio Rubio. Sergio is recovering in Madrid where he currently lives.
“I’ve been attending rehab on my right knee. I’m better and I’m almost ready. I’ve been exercising inside the pool and this has helped me a lot. I will be in even a better shape than on my last fight against Martin Murray. My plan is to establish my training camp in the United States with special exercises on the parts of my body that have been injured," Martinez (51-2-2, 28KOs) explained.
