Jack Catterall: I Want The Winner of Flanagan vs. Hooker

By Elliot Foster

Jack Catterall didn’t get chance to get out of first gear as he added to his unblemished ledger.

The former British champion was in the ring for just one minute and 47 seconds at Elland Road in Leeds.

Catterall boxed on the undercard of hometown hero Josh Warrington’s IBF featherweight world title challenge against Lee Selby.

A man who used to hold this belt, Catterall once again claimed the vacant WBO Inter-Continental super-lightweight title and will now look to move not only up the rankings but also into more meaningful fights.

The ultimate aim for Catterall, who knocked down the Frenchman before he withdrew with a dislocated right shoulder, is a shot at the world title – and he believes it will come sooner rather than later.

“I feel good,” he told BT Sport afterwards. “It’s been a frustrating couple of weeks with a few changes of opponent.”

Catterall was originally meant to face Mohamed Kani for the title, with Sebire slated to face Ohara Davies, who also won on the bill, but the opponents switched.

That, however, wasn’t something that fazed ‘El Gato’, who did what he had to do when push came to shove.

“I stayed professional, got job done and it is what it is. I’ve been working with [new trainer] Jamie [Moore] on different things and I’m happy.

“I’m happy to fight anyone, have a great ranking with WBO and naturally, I want to fight for the world title.

“I’m working to get myself into a good spot to fight the [Terry] Flanagan and [Maurice] Hooker winner, but I’d like to get out again sooner rather than later because I didn’t get chance to show what we had worked on in that fight.”

Meanwhile, new Frank Warren signing Willy Hutchinson added to his unbeaten record with a victory over Manchester’s Adam Jones.

I would not want to fight Flanagan or Hooker as my first fight immediately after having a bum dislocate his own shoulder in R1.
