Immanuwel Aleem has ‘the divine punch’ for Lester Martinez on Saturday, writes Lance Pugmire

Win on Saturday and not only will Lester Martinez be the first Guatemalan to become a world champion in victory, but he will have enhanced his opportunity to fight for the full title

Lester Martinez faces Immanuwel Aleem for the WBC interim super middleweight title, with the winner lining up a potential Canelo Alvarez–Christian Mbilli showdown.

The Saul “Canelo” Alvarez-Christian Mbilli winner could be next for Lester Martinez – if he can first best Immanuwel Aleem in their WBC interim super middleweight title fight.

The WBC on Thursday sanctioned Lester Martinez to fight for its vacant interim super middleweight belt versus Immanuwel Aleem on March 21 in San Bernardino, California.

World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman had no issue with the overall outcome in Saturday's high stakes junior middleweight unification between Jermell Charlo and Brian Castano.

SAN ANTONIO – Amilcar Vidal proved his readiness Saturday night at least for legitimate middleweight contenders. The unbeaten Uruguayan showed some defensive flaws, but he beat his best opponent to date, Immanuwel Aleem, by majority decision in a closely contested, 10-round, 162-pound bout on the Jermell Charlo-Brian Castano undercard at AT&T Center. Aleem became just the third opponent to take Vidal (13-0, 11 KOs) beyond the second round, the second opponent to go the distance with him and produced some strong moments of his own.

SAN ANTONIO – Amilcar Vidal has stopped three straight undefeated opponents inside of two rounds. The unbeaten, unknown Uruguayan middleweight prospect is 12-0, including 11 knockouts, and has been extended past the second round just twice since he launched his pro career in April 2018. Immanuwel Aleem has two losses and two draws on his record, yet the 25-year-old Vidal realizes that he’ll encounter his best opponent to date when he meets Aleem in a 10-round super middleweight fight Saturday night at AT&T Center.
