As the state of New Jersey continues to suffer in the wake of the current global health crisis, its regionally based world sanctioning body has taken the initiative to fight back.

A fundraiser has been arranged by the International Boxing Federation (IBF), the Springfield (NJ)-headquartered organization which has teamed up with the Community Food Bank of New Jersey to “raise awareness and funds… in an effort to help our neighbors in need during these unprecedented times.”

New Jersey has taken a massive hit due to the ongoing coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. The state as a whole has contracted nearly 69,000 positive test cases, from which more than 2,800 have died—both figures ranking as the second highest total only to New York among the hardest hit in the United States.

Many among those who are fortunate enough to still work through the crisis are forced to do so remotely, while a record number of citizens have been forced to file for unemployment. Recognizing the need to offer far more than the obligatory thoughts and prayers, greater efforts are now being performed to assist the community they’ve so proudly served for nearly 40 years.

“The Food Bank is a primary disaster relief responder in the State of New Jersey, and they are in the midst of a major relief effort to address the COVID-19 crisis,” the IBF declared in a statement. “They are experiencing at least a 35 percent increase in need throughout the state as of today, and this number will likely increase, with low-income households being hit the hardest.

“The staggering economic impact of the pandemic will likely cause a dramatic increase in the need for food in the days, weeks, and months ahead.”

As such, the sanctioning body is seeking to raise $10,000 to help serve those in need in the Garden State. The IBF has already pledged a $5,000 donation, with an online fundraiser being held to help raise funds for its targeted balance.

“If you are able to, your contribution can help the Food Bank reach more families in New Jersey during this uncertain time,” notes the IBF. “Your gift makes a difference – just $1 supplies 3 nutritious meals. “Our thoughts are with all who have been impacted by this virus. We are certainly facing challenging and uncertain times, but together, and with each induvial doing their part, we will get through this.”
