WBC super featherweight champion Humberto Soto has announced that he will not vacate his title at this time. Soto recently made his lightweight debut and won a tough decision over former champion Jesus Chavez. There are plans being discussed for a possible fight between Soto and another former champion David Diaz. Soto's goal is to get the winner of the February 6 WBC lightweight title fight between champion Edwin Valero and challenger Antonio DeMarco.

Soto holding on to the belt is a sure backup plan to move back down if he loses his next fight or is unable to get a title shot in the next few months. You have to wonder how long it will be before WBC president Jose Sulaiman steps in and forces him to make a mandatory title defense.
