At Plaza de Toros in Cancun, Mexico, WBC featherweight champion Humberto Soto (49-7, 32KOs) battered Aristides Perez (15-1-1, 8KOs) in two rounds.

Soto and Perez were both swinging away in the first round. Perez was stunned several times in the first by the bigger Soto. In the second round they were throwing bombs and both fighters appeared to go down during the exchanges but neither was ruled as a knockdown. When Soto went down, Perez was trying to hit him while he was still on the mat.

Upon getting up, it was back to a slugfest. The stronger Soto dropped Perez. He beat the count, barely able to stand, and the fight was quickly stopped.

In his second fight under the Top Rank banner, former WBC heavyweight champion Sam Peter (32-3, 25KOs) stopped Ron Bellamy (14-10-4, 9KOs) in two rounds. After putting Bellamy down in the first, Peter finished him off with a power punch assault in the second.
