It took all of 48 seconds for once heralded prospect Frankie “Pitbull” Gomez to dispatch of Pavel Miranda. Gomez pressured Miranda from the outset and landed a perfect combination that dropped Miranda hard forcing the referee to put a halt to the contest. Gomez continues his comeback now at a perfect 14-0 (11KOs) while Miranda falls to 19-9-1 (10KOs).
It was not a "Leo Santa Cruz" type of fight. He did not throw a lot of punches like in previous fights that would rival perfect SAT exam scores. However, Santa Cruz was just as effective and just as strong in defeating a worthy fighter, who received the fight on three-week’s notice. Santa Cruz won a one-sided, yet competitive 12 round decision over Alberto Guevara before a partisan crowd at the Sports Arena in Los Angeles, CA.
By Francisco Salazar - Unbeaten junior middleweight Hugo Centeno Jr. will fight hard-hitting veteran Allen Conyers on December 15th, manager Joel De La Hoya told Boxingscene.com last week. The bout will take place on the undercard of the Amir Khan-Carlos Molina fight, which takes place at the Sports Arena in Los Angeles, CA. The 21 year old Centeno is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions.
Sacramento fight fans reacquainted themselves with an old friend as the Memorial Auditorium played host to welterweight sensation Yoshihiro Kamegai’s American television debut, a majority draw with Jorge Silva. In a compelling brawl, Kamegai (21-0-1, 18 KOs) made good on his reputation as an action fighter, continuously exchanging onslaughts with Silva (18-2-2, 14 KOs), who gave an equally thrilling performance in a very close bout that could have tipped in either direction.
The weights are in for tomorrow's event at the Memorial Auditorium in Sacramento, Calif. The doubleheader will be televised on Fox Sports Net, with the first bout starting at 4 p.m. PT. The promoters are Don Chargin/Paco Presents/Golden Boy/Jorge Marron, and you can purchase tickets at pacopresentsboxing.com or the Sacramento Convention Center Box Office ($35-60; $20 sold out)
Mexican Jorge Silva (18-2-1, 14 KOs) has replaced countryman Cosme Rivera as the opponent for unbeaten Japanese welterweight Yoshihiro Kamegai (21-0, 18 KOs) on Oct. 6 at the Sacramento Memorial Auditorium. Heavyweight Gerald Washington (1-0, 1KO) made his pro debut with a first round stoppage of overwhelmed Blue Delong (0-4). Washington is managed by Al Haymon.

By Jake Donovan On a day where all principles involved in a televised show made weight, drama still couldn't escape the podium in San Jose, California. Selcuk Aydin and Robert Guerrero both successfully made weight for their SHOWTIME-televised headliner Saturday evening at the HP Pavilion in San Jose. However, tension ran high as their respective camps nearly came to blows while sharing the stage during Friday's weigh-in, which was open to the public. Aydin weighed in at 146.5 lb, while Guerrero was well within the welterweight limit at 145.75 lb. The weight serves as a career-high for Guerrero, who moves up from lightweight while on the heels of a 15-month layoff.
