David Carmona seeks his second straight win as the super flyweight contender takes on Martin Casillas in a local rivalry bout Friday evening in Mexico City.
Both fighters came in at the 115 lb. limit for their scheduled 10-round bout, which airs live on Telemundo (Friday, 11:35 p.m. ET).
Carmona (17-2-4, 8KOs) returned to the win column this summer with a 10-round decision over Ricardo Rodriguez in Mexico. The bout was his first since a failed bid at long-reigning super flyweight titlist Omar Narvaez, suffering a 9th round knockout last December on the road in Argentina.
Casillas (14-3, 8KOs) is coming off of a 10-round loss to unbeaten prospect Nikolay Potapov this past April in Russia. The bout was his first outside of his native Mexico, where he had won his previous six stars prior to heading overseas.
The winner of Friday's headliner will be possibly matched up with Daniel Lozano, who won the Boxeo Telemundo Super Flyweight tournament with a 4th round knockout of Jonathan Vidal last weekend in Tampa, Florida. The interim title at stake in this week's bout functionally declares the winner as the mandatory challenger to Lozano, who has his sights sit on Narvaez and a major title.
This bout tops the second show of the fall season of Boxeo Telemundo, with two more cards to air before the series closes out its 2014 campaign.
