Hughie Fury put away Sam Sexton in five rounds on Saturday night at Bolton's Macron Stadium, Premier Suite, to claim the British Heavyweight title with a powerful performance to bounce back from his first career defeat.

It was an explosive return to terrestrial TV Channel 5 for the British Heavyweight title which was last seen on the channel nearly seven years ago. 

In his first fight back from his twelve round majority decision loss to WBO World Joseph Parker in September, Fury had been promising a new and improved style in the build up and he showed that by unleashing his big right-hand with more frequency.

He dropped Sexton in the fourth round just before the bell and then again in the fifth with a right hook leaving the referee Terry O’Connor little choice but to halt the fight.

Hughie dedicated the win to his father Peter who masterminded the return victory and he’s gunning for reigning champions Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder.

Joshua holds the IBF, WBA, IBO, WBO world titles after winning a twelve round decision over Parker in March, while Wilder holds the WBC belt and retained his title, also in March, with a knockout of Luis Ortiz.

“I did everything he said tonight and this fight is dedicated to my dad,” said Fury.

“I was very confident and my body has got so much stronger. I worked my right hand over Christmas and gave a boxing masterclass.”

“I’m dreaming to be a world champion. Whoever has got those belts I’m coming for them. Joshua or Wilder.”

Hughie's cousin, Tyson Fury, makes his return to the ring next month. It will be Tyson's first fight since November of 2015, when he shocked Wladimir Klitschko with a twelve round decision to capture the unified crown.

On the undercard, female boxing sensation Savannah Marshall scored a second round stoppage of Ester Konecna with a power-punching display in her first pro fight on UK soil.
