Heavyweight contender Hughie Fury (23-2, 13 KOs) feels ready for a major fight against anyone in the division - including the world champions.
This past Saturday night in Jeddah, at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium, Fury secured a seven round TKO win over former WBC champion Samuel Peter.
Peter, who used every dirty tactic in the book, claimed that he suffered a shoulder injury during the seventh round and told the referee he was unable to continue.
Fury, who has always been overshadowed by his more famous cousin Tyson Fury, is not bothered by his two career defeats.
Fury lost a twelve round decision to then-WBO champion Joseph Parker in 2017, and lost another twelve round decision in a world title eliminator against Kubrat Pulev in October.
He believes the Parker defeat was a robbery on the cards, and he maintains that a bad cut had impacted his performance against Pulev.
And Fury believes he's certainly among the best fighters at the weight.
“I put myself in the top five in the world,” Fury said to The Mirror. “I’m coming out now and doing it. Whoever wants it, I’m ready for them. I’m not afraid to fight anyone.
“I would not be in this game if I didn’t think I had the beating of them all to become world champion. That’s my mentality. I’m a boxer to become world champion. That’s my goal and I believe I will get there.
“I would back myself against any of the other top fighters in the world and hopefully these are the fights we’re going to get. I believe I beat Parker. I believe I should already be world champion and it’s all to do with politics.
“Then I took the fight with Pulev and had a bit of bad luck there. I went over there to his backyard with an injury. With the cut and everything, the fight went the way it did. No-one gives me the credit I deserve for what I’ve done so far. I don’t need to prove anything. I believe I’m right at the top. I do believe I’m right up there and I’m going to prove it.”
