Alexander Povetkin could fight in the UK soon after being offered the chance by Matchroom.

The WBA’s number one heavyweight contender, who is the official mandatory challenger to unified champion Anthony Joshua, may fight on the Londoner’s undercard on March 31.

Joshua puts his WBA ‘Super’, IBO and IBF titles on the line in a mouthwatering showdown against WBO champion Joseph Parker, of New Zealand, at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium, exclusively live on Sky Sports Box Office.

And Povetkin, 38, may be awarded a spot on the bill before potentially challenging Joshua for the crowns.

Promoter Eddie Hearn said on Tuesday that the former Olympic champion’s promotional team, World of Boxing, have a healthy relationship with he and Matchroom and that there is a possibility that he could fight on the bill against a Brit.

Hearn went on to say that should ‘Sasha’ be confirmed as a name for the supporting cast of Joshua vs. Parker, his fight will be against a Brit.

Dereck Chisora and David Price have both been offered the fight, according to Hearn.

The Matchroom boss also revealed a few names as possibilities for the undercard –– as well as at least one certainty.

He told iFL TV: “We’re going to announce that early next week. A lot [of our fighters] are already in fights but there are lots waiting by like [Ryan] Burnett, [the WBA Super and IBF bantamweight world champion], [Anthony] Crolla and [Luke] Campbell.

“There’s one interesting one I’m working on at the moment that I can’t say too much about, I think Josh Kelly is going to be on the undercard, Joe Cordina, definitely, in a big title fight after last time, too.”

2016 Olympian Cordina featured at the Principality Stadium back in October on the undercard of Joshua’s title fight against Carlos Takam but failed to get on TV due to time constraints and, despite having trained for a title fight, ended up doing a four-round contest.

“We’re looking to have similar quality undercard to the Takam show,” Hearn added, “and a couple of world title fights would be great.”
