Eddie Hearn, promoter for IBF, IBO, WBA, WBO heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, is still hoping to have his superstar boxer fight twice in 2020.

But the ongoing coronavirus pandemic could easily derail that scenario.

Joshua was scheduled to make a mandatory defense against Kubrat Pulev on June 20 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. The event has since been postponed.

Joshua vs. Pulev has been pushed back to a tentative date of July 25.

If the date gets pushed back further, there could come a point where it becomes apparent that Joshua will only see action once in 2020.

And if that's the case, then Hearn would like to see Joshua face WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.

The Joshua vs. Fury scenario is very unlikely, as Fury is contracted to fight Deontay Wilder for a third time and Joshua is contracted to face Pulev.

It's already been stated by Fury's co-promoter, Todd DuBoef of Top Rank, that Wilder has given no indication that he would ever step aside to allow a Joshua unification to take place.

“The next two weeks will tell us everything we need to know,” says Hearn to Evening Standard. “We hope July 25 is the rescheduled date, but the bigger question is that Joshua has to fight by the middle of August to box twice this year, which is the plan.

“So, if it goes beyond that, the conversation may go straight to the fight with Tyson Fury in October or November. There’s a contract to fight Pulev and Fury has to fight Deontay Wilder, but anything is possible in this crazy world.

“It might get to stage where if AJ has not boxed Pulev for months, he starts thinking he’s getting older, he doesn’t want the big fights to slide and this might be his only chance to become undisputed heavyweight champion. For AJ, it’s all about the legacy.”
