Hearn: I Truly Believe Campbell Will Be Loma's Toughest Test!

Promoter Eddie Hearn fully believes that his boxer, Luke Campbell, is capable of pulling off a major upset on Saturday night, when he faces WBA and WBO world lightweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko on Saturday night.

The vacant WBC world title will also be at stake, when the two boxers collide at The O2 Arena in London.

Lomachenko is a huge favorite to win. A victory will place him one belt away from his ultimate goal of unifying the entire weight class.

Lomachenko is regarded as one of the greatest amateur fighters of all-time. He is also a two-time Olympic gold medal winner and won world titles in three weight classes.

But Campbell is also an Olympic gold medal winner, and his skills have improved under new coach Shane McGuigan.

“Nobody’s giving Luke Campbell a chance. I do. People in boxing do. They all say the same thing which is it’ll be the toughest test of Vasyl Lomachenko’s career so far, and I truly believe that," Hearn told Matchroom Boxing.

“If this was Luke Campbell a year ago, if this was two years ago, I don’t think he could win this fight. With [trainer] Shane McGuigan, with his state of mind, with the experiences he’s been through - losing to Mendy, beating Mendy, going to LA and losing a razor-thin decision to Jorge Linares - he didn’t really believe he could win at the time. He was a boy. Now he’s a man, he’s punching harder than ever.

“I just think Campbell has the ring IQ, the power, the style to cause him problems. If he can get through first three or four rounds, if he can navigate the style [of Lomachenko]… Luke Campbell is the greatest amateur Great Britain has ever produced.

“He has watched Lomachenko all over the world in those amateur tournaments. He would have been sitting down watching fights thinking: ‘One day I might fight you.’ Now he’s got it. He knows him inside out but he needs to solve the matrix of Lomachenko.”

[QUOTE=Adamsc151;20018833]He may be right about Campbell being Loma's toughest test and in the spirit of national unity I hope he does pull off the upset. I just think he will fall short though and maybe get stopped late, or KD's…
