Eddie Hearn has been working hard in the last few weeks, attempting to secure numerous fighters to his Matchroom USA banner.

Hearn is currently in talks with numerous fighters - including WBC lightweight champion Mikey Garcia.

Hearn wants to build a vast United States stable for his recently announced streaming deal with Perform Group - which is worth an announced $1 billion over eight years.

As part of the deal, Hearn will stage 16 events per year in the United States - which Perform Group will carry on their streaming service DAZN.

In order to fulfill those dates, Hearn needs to to secure some mid-level and top-level talent to fill up the cards - and he certainly needs some recognizable names.

One of the boxers who is currently in talks with Hearn, is former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. - who recently announced that he's negotiating a multi-fight deal with the British promoter.

Chavez Jr. has been out of the ring since losing a twelve round unanimous decision to Canelo Alvarez in May 2017, at a catch-weight of 168-pounds.

He plans to fight again in August, at the super middleweight limit of 168-pounds.

While some are questioning the move, Hearn believes Chavez Jr. is a very worthy acquisition for the Matchroom USA banner.

“Chavez Junior’s definitely in the mix,” Hearn said to Boxing News. “When you’re hitting numbers it’s not always about these elite, hardcore guys.

“He hits huge numbers, and he can fight. There’s a guy you can get a run behind, start doing some big shows in LA with and then you stick him in with an 168-pounds world champion and you have a huge fight doing huge numbers and huge subscriptions to a Hispanic market.

"So Chavez is definitely of interest to us. There aren’t many fighters we’re not speaking to. You can’t have a promoter, we’re not interested in litigation and mess and breaking contracts. We’re dealing with the fighters that don’t have a promotional deal or are PBC fighters because they don’t have promoters.”
