The boxing world was taken by surprise when Jake Paul (5-0) selected Hasim Rahman Jr. (12-1) as a replacement for Tommy Fury, who isn’t allowed by the United States government to enter the country. Rahman, who is the son of the former heavyweight champion Hasim Rahman, has a deep amateur background with over 100 fights.
NEW YORK – Jake Paul couldn’t believe what Hasim Rahman Jr.’s father said Tuesday about his upcoming opponent. The younger Rahman reminded Paul that the former heavyweight champion’s blunt assessment of his son’s career wasn’t anything he hadn’t heard before his father criticized him during their press conference at Madison Square Garden. Nevertheless, Paul and others in attendance seemed surprised to hear Rahman’s harsh criticism of a career in which his son has gone 12-1, including six knockouts, in 13 heavyweight fights.
NEW YORK – Hasim Rahman Jr. can weigh whatever he wants when he enters the ring to fight Jake Paul the night of August 6. That morning, however, former heavyweight champion Hasim Rahman’s son cannot weigh more than 215 pounds. Rahman revealed during their press conference Tuesday at Madison Square Garden that Paul’s team required him to agree to a rehydration clause that will allow Rahman to gain a maximum of 15 pounds between their official weigh-in the afternoon of August 5 and a second-day weigh-in the morning of August 6.
Youtube star turned boxer Jake Paul (5-0, 4 KOs) explains that his upcoming opponent, heavyweight prospect Hasim Rahman Jr., is now looking to secure a bigger purse for their fight.
In the end, Hasim Rahman Jr. met all the criteria to be involved in Jake Paul’s latest foray in the ring. Rahman Jr., a six-year professional and the son of the former heavyweight champion, will take on YouTube star-turned boxer Paul in an eight-round cruiserweight bout set for Aug. 6 at Madison Square Garden on Showtime Pay-Per-View. The bout will be supported by Pauls’ friend and business partner, Amanda Serrano, in a 10-round women’s featherweight title bout against Brenda Karen Carabajal.
Heavyweight contender Hasim Rahman Jr. has rejected claims that his sole motivation is money when it comes to facing Jake Paul. Last week, Rahman Jr. officially replaced Tommy Fury as Paul's next opponent - in the main event slot for Showtime Pay-Per-View on August 6th at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
