French super featherweight Guillaume Frenois improved his record to a stunning 43-1 (but with just 10 KOs) yesterday, when he scored one of his better wins over rarely fighting but talented Russian import Vyacheslav Gusev over twelve rounds. The fight took place in Saint-Quentin, France, and Guillaume’s European 130lb title was at risk. Scores were: 120-108, 118-110, and 116-112.

Frenois, 33, lost for the first time in his career in 2013 to then-champion Deivis Boschiero. He notched ten wins on his comeback route before acquiring the EBU title by beating his countryman Samir Ziani.

Gusev (who is down to 22-4, 6 KOs), 31, saw his best days long-long ago, in mid- and late 00’s. He was drubbed, however, every time he tried to step up – first by Juan Carlos Burgos, and then by Gary Russell Jr. He fought just five times over the last six years. Frenois was rated IBF #14 coming in.

In the main supportive fight of the night, light heavyweight Tony Averlant (25-9-2, 5 KOs) got back to a winning column, when his Georgian opponent Mikheil Khutsishvili (41-32-6, 21 KOs) was forced to retire on his stool after six complete rounds. He has lost his seventh straight, and, as is the case for a majority of Georgian fighters, he is completely incompetent while fighting abroad (0-25-1).

Other scores:

Yannick Dehez (12-0-1) UD 6 Kelvin Arevalo (4-5, 1 KO). Scores were: 60-54, 59-55, and 59-55.
Dylan Bregeon (2-0, 1 KO) UD 6 Simon Bakalak (8-6, 3 KOs). Scores were: 60-54, 59-56, and 59-56.
