Guido Vianello: record, next fight and profile →
Two rising talents are set to put their perfect records on the line as part of the ESPN-televised tripleheader headlined by the WBC junior lightweight showdown between reigning champ O’Shaquie “Ice Water” Foster and Abraham “El Super” Nova on Friday, Feb. 16 at The Theater at Madison Square Garden.
Guido Vianello is back in the win column. It was hardly entertaining, though enough for the 2016 Olympian to hand his arm raised in victory in an eight-round, unanimous decision over Curtis Harper. Scores were 80-72, 79-73 and 79-73 for Vianello in their ESPN+ preliminary stream Saturday at Fort Bend Epicenter in Rosenberg, Texas.
Janibek Alimkhanuly and Vincenzo Gualtieri will attempt to provide much-needed leadership in the barren middleweight division. The pair of unbeaten titlists began with their obligatory staredown immediately after they both made weight for their WBO and IBF unification bout this Saturday from Fort Bend Epicenter in Rosenberg, Texas. Kazakhstan’s Alimkhanuly was 159.3 pounds while Germany’s Gualtieri checked in at 159 ½ pounds for their ESPN-televised main event. The two then met face-to-face and refused to turn away, even after being instructed by Top Rank staff to turn and face the cameras. Alimkhanuly offered an evil grin before he slowly ended the session, while Gualtieri never broke eye contact.
Janibek “Qazaq Style” Alimkhanuly is ready to conquer the middleweight division one belt a time. The reigning WBO world champion will lock horns against unbeaten IBF world champion Vincenzo Gualtieri in a title unification showdown on Saturday, Oct. 14 at Fort Bend Epicenter in Rosenberg, Texas. This will be the first boxing event to take place at the brand-new, state-of-the-art sports and entertainment venue, which opened its doors last week.
2016 Italian Olympian Guido “The Gladiator” Vianello will take on 2012 Canadian Olympian Simon “The Grizzly” Kean in a 10-round heavyweight battle on Saturday, Aug. 19 at Videotron Centre in Quebec City, Canada. Vianello-Kean will serve as the co-feature to the light heavyweight showdown between WBC/WBO/IBF world champion Artur Beterbiev and WBC No. 1 contender Callum “Mundo” Smith.
Efe Ajagba-Stephan Shaw wasn’t exactly an entertaining main event Saturday night, but ESPN’s audience grew as their 10-round heavyweight contest continued. Nielsen Media Research released data Wednesday that indicated the unremarkable bout between Ajagba and Shaw was
Jonnie Rice knocked off another undefeated prospect Saturday night. The veteran heavyweight stopped Guido Vianello because of a cut above Vianello’s left eye in the seventh round of a co-feature ESPN televised from Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York. A ringside physician determined during a break 42 seconds into the seventh round that a bloodied Vianello shouldn’t continue.
The first fight of the new year was always going to be a step up in class for Guido Vianello. A different opponent than expected is of no concern to the unbeaten heavyweight, whose mission remains the same.
Jonnie Rice’s research has convinced him that he’ll need to be better Saturday night than the last time he upset an undefeated fighter. Rice considers Guido Vianello a more complete opponent than Michael Coffie, whom Rice has beaten in back-to-back
