CARSON, Calif. -- It seemed that WBA/IBO/WBC interim-middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (31-0, 28KOs) had his big fight, but the matchup with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. fell by the wayside.

However, the fight is not dead in the water.

Speaking at the post-fight press conference Saturday after yet another GGG knockout, K2 managing director Tom Loeffler said the fight is still possible.

"Bob did call about a month ago and said that he thought maybe there's still a chance to do that fight," Loeffler said. "So, our door's always open for that fight. The reaction we got about just the rumors of that fight happening, when it was supposed to happen July 19th here at The Forum."

"If that fight happens, that would be his first fight on pay per view. We were so willing to do that fight in July. ... We can't force Chavez to get in the ring with him."
