The two biggest stars in his stable, Saul "Canelo" Alvarez and David Lemieux, are going to be involved in major HBO pay-per-view matchups. Canelo will challenge Miguel Cotto for the WBC middleweight title, likely on November 21 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. On the night of October 17th at the Madison Square Garden, a middleweight unification bout takes place between Gennady Golovkin and David Lemieux. For Bernard Hopkins of Golden Boy Promotions - which promotes Lemieux - the Garden will always be a special place for him. On the night of September 29th, 2001, he became the undisputed middleweight champion by stopping Felix Trinidad in twelve rounds. Like Trinidad did before that fateful night, Golovkin comes into this bout undefeated and with a fearsome reputation as an offensive force.
Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya, who promotes IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux (34-2, 31KOs), expects a vicious war when his fighter steps inside the ring with IBO/WBA champion Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin (33-0, 30KOs). Lemieux just captured his world title last month when he dropped Hassan N'Dam on path to a twelve round unanimous decision in Canada. He could have taken an easy first defense. Instead, he was willing to stake his belt in a fight where either boxer can easily get knocked out on October 17th at New York's Madisn Square Garden.
WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin (33-0, 30KOs) will have a real fight on his hands on October 17th, when he's challenged by the dangerous IBF beltholder David Lemieux (34-2, 31 KOs). Golovkin has faced a lot of opponents over the years, but Lemieux is the first who comes in the ring with a near identical ratio of size, knockouts and aggression.
