Victor Salazar catches up with Camille Estephan, manager of IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux, to discuss the upcoming unification clash with WBA/IBO champion Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin.
NEW YORK – David Lemieux has knocked out 86 percent of his professional opponents, but Abel Sanchez doesn’t believe the hard-hitting Lemieux will be the biggest puncher Gennady Golovkin has faced. Golovkin’s trainer thinks Brooklyn’s Curtis Stevens (27-5, 20 KOs), whom Kazakhstan’s Golovkin stopped after eight rounds in November 2013, is a more dangerous puncher than Montreal’s Lemieux (34-2, 31 KOs).
NEW YORK CITY - Boxing superstar, WBA, IBO and WBC “Interim” Middleweight Champion GENNADY “GGG” GOLOVKIN (33-0, 30 KOs) will face IBF Middleweight title holder, Montreal power-puncher DAVID LEMIEUX (34-2, 31 KOs), in a World Middleweight Championship Title Unification bout on Saturday, October 17 at the Mecca of Boxing, Madison Square Garden. The championship event will be produced and distributed live by HBO Pay-Per-View beginning at 9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. PT.
New York - While Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33 KO’s) is the lineal champion at middleweight, the consensus is that Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30 KO’s) is the best fighter at the weight. Golovkin is the mandatory challenger to Cotto’s WBC title and it was announced at the press conference to kick off the pay-per-view fight between Golovkin and David Lemieux (34-2, 31 KO’s), that the WBC has mandated the winner of that fight to face the winner of the Cotto vs. Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (45-1-1, 32 KO’s) clash that is happening on November 21st.
Victor Salazar catches up with HBO exec Peter Nelson to discuss Miguel Cotto vs. Saul Alvarez, Brandon Rios vs. Ruslan Provodnikov, Gennady Golovkin vs. David Lemieux and more.
NEW YORK – For those wondering why the Gennady Golovkin-David Lemieux fight is on pay-per-view, Golovkin’s promoter explained that it wouldn’t have happened at this time otherwise. HBO Sports executives passed on what it would’ve cost to televise the middleweight title unification fight live on the premium cable network. Thus, HBO Pay-Per-View was the only alternative if Golovkin and Lemieux were to be paid the undisclosed purses they sought. “That’s the only way we could make it work financially,” said Tom Loeffler, president of K2 Promotions, which represents Golovkin.
NEW YORK CITY - Boxing superstar, WBA, IBO and WBC “Interim” Middleweight Champion GENNADY “GGG” GOLOVKIN (33-0, 30 KOs) will face IBF Middleweight title holder, Montreal power-puncher DAVID LEMIEUX (34-2, 31 KOs), in a World Middleweight Championship Title Unification bout on Saturday, October 17 at the Mecca of Boxing, Madison Square Garden. New York - While many fighters look in the opposite direction when the name Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30 KO’s) is mentioned, David Lemieux (34-1, 31 KO’s) embraced it last December when he stopped Gabriel Rosado in Brooklyn. The Canadian fighter said once he got a world title, he’d come back knocking on Golovkin’s door. He gets his chance to unify the IBF middleweight title that he won from Hassan N’Dam this past June with Golovkin’s WBA/IBO middleweight titles come October 17th. Lemieux is aiming at a coming out party on October 17th
NEW YORK – David Lemieux doesn’t consider Miguel Cotto a real middleweight champion. Montreal’s Lemieux (34-2, 31 KOs), who won the IBF middleweight title in his last fight, is among those bothered by Cotto’s insistence on defending the WBC middleweight championship at catch weights since he won it from Sergio Martinez 14 months ago at Madison Square Garden.
NEW YORK - Ahead of their title unification bout, boxing superstar, WBA, IBO and WBC Interim Middleweight World Champion GENNADY "GGG" GOLOVKIN (33-0, 30 KOs) and IBF Middleweight World Champion power-puncher DAVID LEMIEUX (34-2, 31 KOs) of Montreal, Quebec, held a New York City press conference to kick-off their three-city press tour today. Earlier in the day the fighters took the time to visit one of New York's most iconic city landmarks, the Empire State Building.
