The 'Special One' Kell Brook is taking a big risk when he moves up in weight to take on IBF/WBA/WBC/IBO middleweight king Gennady Golovkin on Sept. 10 in a fight matching two unbeaten champions.
As previously reported on BoxingScene.com, Kell Brook will move up two weight divisions to face WBC, WBA, IBO and IBF middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin on September 10 at London's O2 Arena. The unbeaten Sheffield fighter had been expected to put his IBF welterweight title on the line against WBO titlist Jessie Vargas in a unification bout later this year.
The boxing world was once again stunned on Friday, when Matchroom Boxing and K2 Promotions announced that a deal was finalized for Gennady Golovkin to defend his IBF, WBA, WBC and IBO Middleweight World titles against IBF Welterweight champion Kell Brook at The O2 in London on September 10, live on Sky Sports Box Office and HBO World Championship Boxing.
