Golden Boy Promotions President Eric Gomez, who promotes unbeaten Ryan Garcia, says his boxer is demanding fights like Luke Campbell.

The World Boxing Council recently ordered Garcia and Campbell to fight each other for the vacant WBC-interim lightweight world title.

Garcia could have faced Emmanuel Tagoe in a WBO eliminator, but he wanted to fight with Campbell, according to Gomez.

"[Last Wednesday] negotiations were ordered to begin. We are very excited, this is the type of fight that Ryan wants. This is a real fight. Campbell is a top fighter, he really is. He came close to beating Jorge Linares - the only reason he lost is because of a knoc-down early in their fight," Gomez told Sky Sports.

"He is a legitimate threat, a very good fighter, an Olympic gold medallist. This will test Ryan. If he beats Campbell then he will get a lot of credit. But it is very dangerous for Ryan. These are the type of fights that he needs in his career."

Campbell, an Olympic gold medal winner, has twice challenged for the world title - in fights against Jorge Linares and Vasiliy Lomachenko.

Both fights had excitement and drama, with Campbell losing twelve round decisions in the two outings.

Garcia was initially tabbed to face former world champion Jorge Linares, who will now battle Javier Fortuna for the WBC Diamond title.

A fight between Garcia and Linares can still happen down the line, as both are promoted by Golden Boy.

"Linares looked very good in his last fight," Gomez said. "But Fortuna is a real test.

"This will gauge how much Linares does next. He still has the desire to be a world champion and this is a step in the right direction. He is motivated and still has the skill-set."
