PATERSON, N.J. — Glen Tapia’s willingness to initiate exciting exchanges has made him a fan-friendly fighter since he turned pro five years ago. Some boxing experts envision a slugfest favoring James Kirkland, Tapia’s opponent Saturday night in Atlantic City, but that won’t stop Tapia from brawling with one of the sport’s most dangerous punchers at times during his HBO debut.

Undefeated junior middleweight contender Glen Tapia (20-0, 12KOs) plans to show his talents when he faces the most dangerous opponent of his entire career, top contender James Kirkland (31-1, 27KOs). The fight will be showcased by HBO on December 7th at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. Kirkland has a big edge in experience, but Tapia has the edge with activity. He already fought four times in 2013, winning three of those bouts by knockout. Due to promotional and legal issues, Kirkland has been inactive since March 2012, when he was awarded a controversial ten round disqualification win over Carlos Molina.

Sources with knowledge of the details have advised BoxingScene.com that junior middleweight contender James Kirkland (31-1, 27KOs) will be heading back to former trainer Ann Wolfe. Kirkland has been training with Bob Santos in California, but Santos has a scheduling conflict and has to depart in order to join the camp of Erislandy Lara (18-1-2, 12KOs), who is training in Texas to face Austin Trout (26-1, 14KOs) in a Showtime televised fight for the vacant WBA "regular" 154-pound title on December 7th at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

BoxingScene.com recently caught up with undefeated junior middleweight prospect Glen Tapia. The New Jersey native faces James Kirkland (31-1) as part of a HBO televised tripleheader in Atlantic City on December 7th. The 23-year-old said that he is very pleased to be taking the next progression in his career. Even with an 18 month layoff, Tapia expects Kirkland to be as aggressive as he always has been throughout his career. "I am excited man. There's nothing else to say. I can't wait to get in the ring. "I will see in the first round (how aggressive he is). He comes out to fight and I love that. I come to fight too. I've never seen him in a fight where he doesn't come out to fight. I'll be ready. I can't give my plan away. I do my talking with these (fists)," Tapia stated.

Bill Emes catches up with undefeated junior middleweight contender Glen Tapia to discuss his upcoming fight with the very dangerous James Kirkland and HBO's Legendary Nights documentary for the Gatti-Ward trilogy.

NEW YORK -- Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson's SMS Promotions officially announced its signing of world light middleweight contender James "Mandingo Warrior" Kirkland (31-1, 27 KOs) to an exclusive promotional contract. "James concentrates on conditioning and building strength,"50 Cent said. "He brings the fight to you and is aggressive in the ring. The crowd loves the action and I'm excited to make him a part of our team." "I had a relationship with 50-Cent before he came into the boxing business," Kirkland explained. "We already had a friendship when he got this group together. He can do what no other promoters can do. He's a different type of promoter who can make things happen in and out of the ring for me. It's clear to me that I made the right decision." Due to problems outside of the ring, the 29-year-old southpaw from Austin, Texas has been inactive since stopping Carlos Molina in the 10th round of their March 24, 2012 fight in Houston. Kirkland successfully defended his World Boxing Council (WBC) Continental Americas 154-pound title belt, originally captured November 5, 2011 when the knockout artist registered an impressive sixth-round technical knockout of Alfredo Angulo (20-1) in Mexico.

BoxingScene.com has been advised that junior middleweight contender James Kirkland (31-1, 27KOs) will be trained by Bob Santos for his upcoming HBO televised fight Glen Tapia (20-0, 12KOs) on December 7th at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. Santos works with Robert Guerrero and Erislandy Lara, and previously worked with Joel Casamayor and Hector Lizarraga. Kirkland's strength and conditioning will be handled by Adam Tafralis. Kirkland, inactive since the March 2012 disqualification win over Carlos Molina, was previously trained by Ann Wolfe and later by Kenny Adams.

The Glen Tapia-James Kirkland fight appeared to be in jeopardy earlier Monday, but representatives for the combatants came to an agreement on a new weight for what figures to be an action-packed brawl Dec. 7 bout in Atlantic City. Pat Lynch, Tapia’s co-manager, told BoxingScene.com on Monday night that the contracted weight for the fight, which will be broadcast by HBO, is now a maximum of 156 pounds. The initial deal between Top Rank Inc., Tapia’s promoter, and rapper Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, who promotes Kirkland, was for the junior middleweight limit of 154 pounds, plus a pound, which would’ve allowed the fighters to weigh in at no more than 155 on Dec. 6.
