Ginjiro Shigeoka: record, next fight and profile →
Oscar Collazo couldn’t wait to welcome the Shigeoka brothers to the title stage. 'El Pupilo' is equally as eager to knock each off their respective perch. "Where’s the Mario Brothers at," Collazo mockingly asked. "I want all the smoke."
Yudai Shigeoka handled the rest from there and forever etched the family name in the boxing history books. The pair of Japanese southpaws became the first siblings in boxing history to win major titles in the same weight division on the same show. Yudai followed Ginjiro's IBF strawweight title winning pursuit with a twelve-round, unanimous decision win over Thailand's Panya Padrabsri in their WBC strawweight title consolidation bout. The elder Shigeoka won by scores of 119-109, 119-109 and 117-111 to claim the belt Saturday on ABEMA TV from Ota-City General Gymnasium in Tokyo.
It proved to be well worth the wait for Ginjiro Shigeoka. A title consolidation rematch several months into the making saw the Japanese southpaw dethrone IBF strawweight beltholder Daniel Valladares in a victory. Valladares was dropped in round one and left defenseless along the ropes to force a stoppage at 2:15 of the fifth round of their title fight Saturday at Ota-City General Gymnasium in Tokyo.
There is a plan in place for the Shigeokas to collect all the strawweight titles and find a way to keep all the belts in the family. Yudai and Ginjiro Shigeoka have a chance to make history as the first pair of brothers to win major titles at the same weight on the same show. Older brother Yudai meets Panya Pradabsri in a WBC strawweight title unification bout, while
Koki Kameda immediately knew what he had in the Shigeoka brothers. There wasn’t the slightest hesitance when Kameda Promotions added Ginjiro and Yudai Shigeoka to its young and growing roster. The belief upon signing the pair of strawweights was that very little time would pass before they ruled the division.
It is now Daniel Valladares’ turn to wait on the rematch. BoxingScene.com has learned that the snakebit IBF strawweight title consolidation bout has suffered another delay. This time, it is interim titlist Ginjiro Shigeoka who was forced to withdraw from their scheduled August 11 rematch due to an injury to his left leg suffered during training camp.
Ginjiro Shigeoka will get another crack at Daniel Valladares. BoxingScene.com has confirmed that the IBF strawweight title consolidation bout is set for August 11 at EDION Arena in Osaka, Japan. The bout will air live on subscription-based app Abema TV, through which Kameda Promotions—headed by former three-division champion Koki Kameda—enjoys an exclusive deal.
Yudai Shigeoka didn't waste any time to join his younger brother in the title hunt. The brotherly tandem both claimed interim strawweight titles as part of Kameda Promotions' 3150Fight Vol. 5 show Sunday evening on Abema TV from Yoyogi #2 Gymnasium. Yudai Shigeoka did his part with a seventh-round knockout of former WBO 105-pound titlist Wilfredo 'Bimbito' Mendez.
Ginjiro Shigeoka is back on course to challenge for the title he should have earned earlier this year. The unbeaten southpaw won the interim IBF strawweight title following a ninth-round knockout of former full IBF champ Rene Mark Cuarto. Shigeoka was down in the opening round but stormed back to score three knockdowns and force a stoppage at 2:55 of round nine in their entertaining fight Sunday at Yoyogi #2 Gymnasium in Tokyo.
SAN ANTONIO – The hustle never stops for Koki Kameda. In fact, it’s busier than ever for the former multi-division champion, years after his storied boxing career. The past two weeks alone for Kameda included the promotion of his upcoming show, 3150Fight Vol. 5, which features the Shigeoka brothers—Ginjiro and Yudai—in separate interim strawweight title fights, a global journey to secure a new
