Gilberto Ramirez: record, next fight and profile →
Tracking the career of Sullivan Barrera, it’s of little surprise that he was willing to take on a top fighter such as Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez for his first ring appearance in more than two years. The extended break is only due to plans repeatedly falling through for a fight with another elite talent.
Gilberto Ramirez feels that a showdown between him and superstar countryman Canelo Alvarez will be inevitable once he wins a title–or a few–at light heavyweight.
The plan for Sullivan Barrera from here on out is to remain at this level, with ring activity a targeted but secondary goal. A two-year ring absence precedes the return of Miami’s Barrera (22-3, 14KOs), who faces former super middleweight titlist Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez. The bout headlines a loaded show this Friday live on DAZN from Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles, with Ramirez (41-0, 27KOs) making his Golden Boy Promotions debut.
By Jake Donovan - Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez is fine with the exceedingly high expectations placed upon him by his new promoter. Upon signing with Golden Boy Promotions earlier this year, the former WBO super middleweight titlist was tabbed by Hall of Fame former six-division titlist and company founder Oscar De La Hoya to one day advance to 52-0 as a pro.

By Thomas Gerbasi - If someone told a young Gilberto Ramirez early in his amateur boxing career that he would eventually be one of the sport’s rising stars, a world champion and an ambassador for his native Mexico, such words would be met with a sneer or a laugh, or both.
Light heavyweight contender Sullivan Barrera is days away from the opportunity that he was waiting for. The Cuban boxer will face former world champion Gilberto "Zurdo'' Ramirez in Los Angeles on July 9 in a battle that could mark the end of his ring career or a new beginning, depending on outcome.
Gilberto Ramirez is apparently trying to make up for lost time. The former 168-titleholder and current light heavyweight Mexican contender has seen his career go by the wayside in recent years due to promotional issues–he fought only twice in the past two years–but he has seemingly found his footing after signing with Golden Boy Promotions earlier this spring.
