Gilberto Ramirez: record, next fight and profile →
Despite winning the WBA light heavyweight world title eliminator last December to become the mandatory challenger for WBA champion Dmitry Bivol, 43-0 Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez is waiting for a crack at the gold.
Oscar De La Hoya was a mainstay fighting around Cinco de Mayo week throughout his illustrious 16-year career. As a promoter, the boxing icon created the same opportunities around the Mexican holiday for the fighters he helped build, chiefly Canelo Alvarez.
Undefeated Toronto light heavyweight prospect Kareem Hackett (8-0, 7 KOs) has signed a managerial contract with 3 Point Management (3PM), which also manages 43-0 Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez, the former World Super Middleweight Champion, and today the top-ranked World light heavyweight contender.
Back in December, right after Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (43-0, 29 KOs) stopped Yunieski Gonzalez to become the mandatory challenger for World Boxing Association (WBA) Light Heavyweight World Super Champion Dmitry Bivol (19-0, 11 KOs).
Undefeated bantamweight prospect John “Scrappy” Ramirez (8-0, 7 KOs), the second boxer signed to 3 Point Management (3PM), which also manages 43-0 Gilberto “Zurdo” Promotions, was arguably the most active boxer in the United States in 2021 with seven professional fights, including three on high-profile platforms headlined by “Zurdo,” the former world super middleweight champion and top-ranked light heavyweight contender.

Gilberto Ramirez needed nine-plus rounds to stop an extremely courageous, stubborn underdog Saturday night. The Mexican southpaw withstood a shaky start in the first round, went toe-to-toe with Yunieski Gonzalez in many rounds of a fantastic fight and finally finished off the dangerous Cuban in the 10th round of their main event at AT&T Center in San Antonio. Ramirez seemed as though he would finish off Gonzalez in the third round, but the ridiculously resilient Gonzalez incredibly took Ramirez’s hardest shots for parts of seven additional rounds, rocked Ramirez multiple times and remained dangerous throughout their light heavyweight bout.
