Gilberto Ramirez: record, next fight and profile →
Former world super middleweight champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (44-0, 30 KOs) is applying further pressure to get a crack at World Boxing Association (WBA) light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol.
Gilberto 'Zurdo' Ramirez is going to apply a lot of pressure to secure a fight with WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol. This past weekend in California, Ramirez easily stopped Dominic Boesel in a WBA final eliminator.
Dmitry Bivol was an interested observer during this past weekend’s light heavyweight title eliminator, though not necessarily in search of his next opponent.
There is no question as to who Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez next expects to face in the ring. The unbeaten former WBO super middleweight titlist is now the mandatory challenger to WBA light heavyweight titlist Dmitry Bivol (20-0, 11KOs) following a fourth-round knockout of Germany’s Dominic Boesel (32-3, 12KOs) in their final title eliminator. Ramirez floored Boesel midway through round four, prompting an immediate stoppage along with the Mexican southpaw not mincing his words in declaring his stated target.
Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez is now within one win of becoming a two-division champion. The unbeaten former WBO super middleweight titlist secured the mandatory contender position in the WBA light heavyweight rankings following a one-sided, fourth-round knockout of Germany’s Dominic Boesel. Ramirez floored Boesel to force an immediate stoppage at 1:33 of round four Saturday evening on DAZN from Toyota Arena in Ontario, California.
Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez does not have any intention of becoming the second straight high-profile Mexican boxer to come up short in a light heavyweight fight with title fight implications.
The mission has never been clearer for Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez. A shot at the WBA light heavyweight title is well within reach for Mexico’s Ramirez, who faces Germany’s Dominic Boesel (32-2, 15KOs) in a final eliminator this Saturday. The winner will become the mandatory challenger to Dmitry Bivol (20-0, 11KOs), who defended the title with a decision win over boxing’s biggest star in Guadalajara’s Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez (57-2-2, 39KOs) this past Saturday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Gilberto Ramirez entered fight week confident that his next fight will be for a light heavyweight title. A win on Saturday will put the unbeaten former WBO super middleweight titlist in contention, as Ramirez is set to face Germany’s Dominic Boesel in a WBA light heavyweight title eliminator. Both boxers made weight for their scheduled 12-round main event, which streams live on DAZN from Toyota Arena in Ontario, California.
The path to a second divisional title has never been clearer for Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez. A win is still required for Mexico’s Ramirez to secure a guaranteed shot at WBA light heavyweight titlist Dmitry Bivol, with that step being taken this weekend.
