Former WBO super middleweight champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramírez is looking for another world title in 2020.

Ramirez made the jump to light heavyweight in 2019, but he's been out of the ring since making that debut in April. The division is very loaded with numerous options for Ramirez, as his promoter - Top Rank - currently handle several top contenders at the weight.

Currently ranked at number one under the WBO, Ramirez is the mandatory challenger to the world title.

Ramirez was waiting to get a crack at the belt - which is now vacant.

When the Mexican boxer made the jump to 175, the WBO title was held by Sergey Kovalev.

But last November, Canelo Alvarez jumped up by two weight divisions and knocked Kovalev out in eleven rounds for the belt.

Fast forward by a few weeks, Canelo vacated the title as he plans to continue his career in a lower weight class.

Ramirez is hoping to fight for that vacant belt in the coming months. Ranked at  number two is Umar Salamov (25-1, 19 KOs) of Russia.

"This year, good things are coming for me, I'm about to close a deal to fight for the title at 175 pounds, I'm glad to have the opportunity to become a champion twice," said Ramirez to Carlos Robles.

"I believe that is what we want the most as boxers, to become champion and get another title, and I would very much like to be able to achieve that, so this 2020 will be mine.

“We are working on this [deal], finalizing the details and seeing what is coming for me. I am happy for this and very excited for this year, since last year I was somewhat inactive.I want to be able to go out and give better fights, be more active and have people know who I am."
