Amongst a long list of interested observers that tuned in to watch Frank Martin face off against Michel Rivera, Gervonta Davis admits that he took in the sights as well.

Officially, the two placed their unsullied records on the line two weeks ago at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, Nevada. With both fighters considered big-time prospects at 135 pounds, it was Martin who took one gigantic step forward.

After landing the harder, cleaner, and crisper blows early on, Martin (17-0, 12 KOs) nearly ended the night of his man in the seventh round. Now, having comprehensively broke Rivera down before cruising to a unanimous decision victory, Davis reveals that he’s more than interested in stepping into the ring against Martin.

“Yea for sure,” said an excited Davis to a group of reporters when asked if he would face Martin. “Hell yea.”

Though exuberant and intrigued by a possible showdown, a collision between them doesn’t appear likely.

For starters, Davis (27-0, 25 KOs) has already announced the first half of his 2023 schedule. First up for the popular star out of Baltimore, Maryland, will be a showdown against Hector Luis Garcia. Should Davis preserve his undefeated record, he’ll then look to unambiguously close the chapter on his rivalry with Ryan Garcia at some point in April.

Martin, on the other hand, has championship gold in his sights as he eyes a matchup with current undisputed titlist, Devin Haney. Still, despite heading in seemingly opposite directions, Martin did mention that Davis is in fact one of his desired options. Standing firmly behind him in his quest to eventually face Davis, is his promoter, current WBA, WBC, and IBF welterweight champion, Errol Spence Jr.

Although Davis understands that Spence, a good friend of his, was simply backing his fighter, that isn't stopping him from warning the unified champion that if he isn't careful, Martin could pay the ultimate price.

“Errol better watch out, get his fighter hurt bad.”
