Gennady Golovkin: record, next fight and profile →
LAS VEGAS – Gennadiy Golovkin doesn’t pay much attention to “the nonsense” he claims Canelo Alvarez says. Alvarez’s assertion that their third fight is very personal to him is a perfect case in point, according to Golovkin. If Alvarez wanted to fight him prior to Saturday night, Golovkin contended that the Mexican superstar had all the leverage and
After two compelling fights, it is hard to say a third contest is not needed. But there are plenty asking this week whether we require Saturday’s trilogy fight between Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin.
Much has changed since Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (52-2-2, 39 KOs) and Gennady Golovkin (42-1-1, 37 KOs) faced each other in 2017 and 2018 with more intangibles coming into play to make Canelo-Golovkin III as intriguing as their first two encounters. No longer is either of them the seemingly invincible and invulnerable fighters they were when they first collided in 2017. Both have had flaws in their respective games exposed by each other as well as other fighters they faced along the way.
Spending the better part of his 2022 schedule sequestered on the sidelines wasn't exactly in the plans for Jermall Charlo. The WBC middleweight belt holder and former two-division champion, was originally scheduled to return to the ring this past June, in a homecoming bout against Maciej Sulecki.
Rocky Fielding says fighting Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez is as mentally punishing as it is physically. LAS VEGAS – Gennadiy Golovkin gave an intense Canelo Alvarez a smile as they were separated on stage Friday following their ceremonial weigh-in. Now that they’ve made weight at a jam-packed plaza outside of T-Mobile Arena, these rivals barely have to wait 24 more hours for their third fight. Four years and two days after Alvarez won their 12-round middleweight championship rematch by majority decision, they will return to T-Mobile Arena to compete in another 12-rounder for Alvarez’s IBF, WBA, WBC and WBO super middleweight crowns.
LAS VEGAS – Canelo Alvarez reiterated that he eventually wants to avenge his loss to Dmitry Bivol. According to Alvarez, he would’ve boxed Bivol again Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena if not for the contractual commitment he made before he battled Bivol on May 7 to square off against Gennadiy Golovkin for the third time.
